The second class of weapons are books, whose attacks are typically shotgun-like and don't consume too much mana. Different characters will have different properties for this starting weapon, such as faster or slower ROF, a differently-styled secondary attack, less or more accuracy. The first is the basic wand, whose mana (ammunition) replenishes quickly and automatically for all characters. There is a good variety of weapons (the pool grows bigger as you unlock more of them) spread across 4 categories. The game has permadeath and you can only save between floors. A floor ends when you beat its boss, and you will need a Portal Key to summon the boss. You must pick from a number of characters (you start with one, but can unlock others) and reach the 5th floor to win, and every floor is randomly generated from a number of pre-built rooms that are then strung together. Map layouts are far more arena-like and not as complex as they were in the classics, though. Map layouts are far more arena-like and not as complex as they were in It plays a lot like Heretic/Hexen would if they had Roguelike elements. In this industry only Nintendo can be trusted with such confidence for a one and done release. It plays a lot like Heretic/Hexen would if they had Roguelike elements. They release the game and then the updates and content is what it is at release. Just saw this comment by I believe one of the devs and this is what I'm talking about. Having watched the trailer this looks much the same which is fine by me but I hope they have a more balanced experience for the game rather than one that feels like it scales to destroy your playthroughs intentionally. I have 40 hours clocked in the original game with most things unlocked so I got a pretty good experience with it. The other thing is the characters outside of a 3-4 characters the rest are uninspiring and definitely not worth playing with unless you're an achievement whore. The same is the case with the trap rooms with the chest reward at the end of the room which have amulets which again are not always useful or needed. I felt burnt by the original as I feel the devs abandoned it early in order to move onto other projects etc which is fine as the game is definitely playable and there isn't many issues with it per-say but there are some weird thing like fps drops, crashes and unbalanced things like the sacrifice fountain statues is basically a way to make your play through harder intentionally in the grand scheme of things, it's rare that it plays out in your favour and so it leans heavily in the favour of "avoid" unless you like to potentially spoil your playthrough. Would totally recommend if you enjoyed the first. I would've given it a 8.5/10 in a world where Gunfire Reborn or Robo Quest didn't exist, but the bar has been put so high that the game felt outdated the day it came out, it's a solid 6/10, still play it from time to time but mosly as a timewaster instead of giving it hours upon hours of gametime. The Shooting feels good, the weapons and abilities are fun, the character designs are pretty (if a bit generic) and in higher difficulties the game will kick your ass, but it does get repetitive pretty quickly, the campaign mode it has aliviates this a bit by having you unlock weapons/relics when completing dungeons, but said dungeons are pretty much exactly the same proceduraly generated maps, if you played Mothergunship it's exactly the same approach but without the funny general talking to you in comms. Had a lot of nostalgia for Ziggurat since it was one of the first Roguelite shooters, 2 is pretty much 1 but all around better in almost every way sans level design. Bought it since early access release, lots of fun, but sadly the best thing about the game is the amazing soundtrack (seriously, it blew me away, so good it i bought it from directly from Steam)
